March 26th, 2012

Do you know what the best ways of insuring your health are? The first thing that you need to understand is that you are the only person who can insure your health and the way to do that is through diet, exercise, and insurance.

What I would recommend is that you get on a steady diet. If you don’t know what kind of diet is good for you then either look around online or talk to a diet specialist in the United Kingdom. I know there are a lot of them so don’t say that there aren’t. Something I would do is make sure you have enough vegetables and fruits throughout the day and then make sure you get your fiber, fats, and dairy during your meals. The r Read full post…

December 3rd, 2011

Premiums for employer-sponsored family health insurance rose by 50 percent from 2003 to 2010, and the annual amount workers pay toward their insurance increased by 63 percent, according to a new Commonwealth Fund report examining state trends in health insurance costs.

Meanwhile, premiums are buying less protection. Deductibles per person doubled for employees over the same period.

By 2010, more than half of the U.S. population, 62 percent, lived in a state where health insurance premiums equaled 20 percent or more of earnings for a middle-income individual under age 65, according to the report.

Health Insurance Exchanges: A Race to the Bottom

July 21st, 2011

President Obama says that his health plans popularity will grow once its provisions start being implemented. But peculiar rules tucked into the legislation are likely to make the entire scheme even more disliked as its implementation approaches.

At the heart of the Obama plan are 50 state-based exchanges where insurers will be able to sell health plans inside new marketplaces. The health plans that insurers market will have to comply with a strict set of government rules on the minimum benefits that they need to offer, and the amount of money that plans can spend on overhead and take for profits. California Assembly Bill Gives Authority to Reject Health Insurance Rate Hikes

June 23rd, 2011

A California assembly bill giving health insurance regulators authority over rate hikes has advanced. The bill, AB52, which was approved by the state Assembly on Thursday, brings regulators one step closer to having the power theyve wanted to reject or modify excessive health premium increases in California.

Bills Author Says Measure is Necessary

Assemblyman Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles), who is also the bills author, said the measure is necessary because rates for California policyholders were skyrocketing and regulators could not control the increases.

For instance, in March 2011, Blue Shield of California had planned to increase premiums by as much as 59 percent for some policyholders. Wh

April 24th, 2011

Ninety percent of American families living above the federal poverty level will be able to afford health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to a new Commonwealth Fund report by Jonathan Gruber and Ian Perry of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The report finds that new subsidies available through health insurance exchanges established under the law will make premiums affordable for most families. But the authors also warn that high out-of-pocket costs will likely mean some families will still be unable to afford health-related expenses. Read full post…

April 6th, 2011

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that nearly $46.5 million for basic grant funding will be distributed to State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs) on April 1, 2011, to help people with Medicare, and those who care for them, receive information and counseling about their health benefits and choices. Short term health insurance

January 15th, 2011

Traditional health insurance is generally viewed as long term health insurance. Meaning you enroll in an insurance plan, either through work, school or independently, and you have it for longer than a year. But what if you need insurance for shorter than a year? Maybe to cover some gaps? There is a perfect option for you.

Short term health insurance could also be called transitional insurance. Recent college grads have an unknown amount of time between graduation and a job offer. If they are receiving student health insurance, that will expire once the diploma hits their hand (or gets mailed to them, but you get the picture). While some grads are lucky enough to transition easily into their first real job, some are not so lucky.
