AARP Urges Congress To Reject Legislation That Could Leave Hundreds Of Thousands Without Health Coverage

AARP today voiced its opposition to legislation that would eliminate the Medicaid Maintenance-of-Effort (MOE) requirements included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that is being considered in the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee.

The legislation, H.R.1683, could lead to the loss of vital protections for health care access for older Americans, persons with disabilities, and children, effectively allowing states to cut eligibility for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Read full post…

House Bans State Access to Health Exchange Grant Money

The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to ban federal grant money meant to help states set up health exchanges. The 238-183 vote, which was primarily along party lines and strongly objected by President Barack Obama, was a part of Republicans continued push to dismantle health care reform.

Republicans Oppose Funding for Health Exchanges

When Obama signed the health care reform bill into law in March 2010, one of the changes that occurred in the world of health insurance was the creation of the health exchange, which would be a place where individuals could go to compare various policy options and select the one that was best for them.

The exchanges were created to lower insurance costs for those who dont have coverage available to them via an employer or are self-employed by offering them access to rates found in group coverage that companies already have available to them.

House Republicans “Ironically” Plan To Strip States Of Resources Needed To Create New Private Health Insurance Marketplaces

This week, House Republicans plan to vote on a bill (H.R. 1213) to take from states the grants they can use to establish “exchanges,” new state-based marketplaces authorized by the Affordable Care Act, that will enable consumers and small businesses to select the private health insurance plans they want. 95 Percent of Physicians Expect Increased ER Visits in 2012

Emergency room physicians polled in a new survey revealed they believe ER visits will increase significantly next year. The survey found that 80 percent have already seen increases this year. Even more troubling is the current and expected visit increases, in many cases, are a direct result of a lack of health insurance.
