Court Orders Employer to Repay $104K to Texas Mutual
July 30th, 2010
Texas Mutual Insurance Co. announced that a Travis County district court sentenced Cheryl Bussey of Mansfield, Texas, on workers’ compensation fraud-related charges. Bussey was sentenced to 10 years’ deferred adjudication and ordered to repay $103,851 to Texas Mutual.
Bussey was the owner of Trans X Corp, a temporary employment agency in Arlington, Texas. Bussey was involved in a scheme to conceal the number of employees and annual payroll of Trans X Corp from Texas Mutual.
Because workers’ compensation insurance premium is based in part on payroll, such a scheme results in a business paying less premium than it actually owes.

Advocacy Groups Target Campaigns Of Anti-Choice Democrats Who Voted For Health Reform
July 26th, 2010
Some advocacy groups that traditionally oppose abortion rights but were divided on health care reform are now trying to influence the re-election of Democrats, who oppose abortion rights and voted for the health care reform law (PL 111-148), Politico reports. Both sides are targeting fundraising and voter mobilization efforts in the re-election campaigns of anti-choice Democrats who voted for the legislation after President Obama signed an executive order reaffirming that no federal funds would be used for abortion services under the law. Many antiabortion-rights groups maintain that the law “create[s] a loophole” that would allow federal funding of abortion, while others argue that the health care reform law clearly prohibits federal funding of abortion, Politico reports.

HO-3 Policy
July 26th, 2010
HO -3 is the most complex insurance policy.
The widely used HO-3 policy, which provides the most extensive homeowner’s coverage available, is sometimes a problematic one. If the home is damaged, the loss will be measured at replacement cost without deduction for depreciation, subject to the following. The following takes away much of what the preceding gives.
Damaged Building
First, anything resembling replacement cost is only available if at the time of loss the amount of insurance in this policy on the damaged building is 80% or more of the full replacement cost of the building prior to the loss. I
